Larry the grouch, just went with the flow, and started to unpack too. The sooner they’d get rid of his mom, the better.

“Okay, everything’s set. Can you please go now?” Folding his arm, and pouting at his mom. He really wasn’t enjoying her babying him as much as she did.

“Alright, but give me a hug and kiss first.” She said with a polite smile. She really didn’t want to go, but she didn’t want to upset him in anyway.

Ugh, was she was serious? Oh, fine. It wouldn’t hurt him to show a little affection towards his mom, but in front of Kay?

So, deciding to be a good son, he hugged his mother, and gave her a peck on the cheek. “Bye, mom.” He said, rolling his eyes yet again when he let go of her.

“Bye sweetie, I love you~” She said chucking, and stepping inside her car, and blew a kiss to him as she drove away.

“Thank god.” Larry said happily. “She’s gone.” It was then, Larry started to wonder if this was a good idea…

It was nice to see Larry showing affection to his mother whether he was reluctant or not. Giving Ms. Butz a hug as well, the two of them waved and watched her drive away until Sunday when she would pick them up.

Once she was out of sight, Kay turned to Larry and practically jumped in his arms. “Isn’t this exciting? Just the two of us all alone in the middle of nowhere!” The thief was bound to have a sore face from all the smiling she was doing. “Now no more being Mr. Grumpy Pants! This is going to be fun!”

Sighing, he took the photo album, and shoved in the farthest part of under of the floor of the back seat.

Aw hell no, now they’re discussing pet names. Great, just great. Why weren’t they there, yet? How much longer must he suffer this torture?

(…I should have brought Edgey, she could’ve teased him instead. Dammit, why did he have to go on vacation with his dad? I get it, he wants to be a lawyer. I just, I don’t know… I miss him, I guess. He really was fun to tease, even if Nick didn’t exactly approve of it…)

Shaking his head, and looking out the window sadly, he decided to go with the flow. He really should be grateful. Kay could have of just ignored him, and let him suffer in boredom the whole summer.

More laughter and singing filled the car and before Kay knew it, they had arrived at their destination. Off a dirt road seemingly in the middle of nowhere, they were surrounded by empty lots for fellow campers to set up their tents, but luckily they were the only ones here. Hopefully it would stay that way.

First one out of the car was Kay and she sucked in as much fresh air as possible while glancing around. Everything was so green compared the the grey city life. This was all just as gorgeous as her spontaneous trip to Alaska. Spending the weekend alone in the woods with Larry was sure to be great fun and Kay was excited to get the party started so she headed back towards the trunk with Ms. Butz and started unloading.

As she pulled back her statement made the prosecutor loose the amused tone back to a kinder expression. She has always been a daddy’s girl and is still is, those glimpse of her younger days was always recomforting to see that Kay was still the same, no matter how much the girl mentally and physically changed over the years without him.

Of course I know, I was only playing too.

Without a mother, what other choice did she have than to become a daddy’s girl? That doesn’t mean she wouldn’t have loved him any less if that woman was still around. Full-heartedly, Kay let out a laugh and poked the man’s side. “I figured as much. Oh, how was your trip?”

Right now her dad did not wish to explain the details, considering the reason for his prolonged stay was for trying to track a trail leading to the smuggling ring, which appeared to be a completely unrelated organization. He wanted to make sure she stayed out of the whole ordeal and lived her life as every other regular girls.

Business as usual, I didn’t have time to enjoy this ‘vacation’ and was pretty much running around most of the time investigating on the case. But what about you? What happened to this Larry Butz you were with?

“Investigating? Without me?! Oh man, who needs vacations when you have an exciting job to do!” Ever since her adventures with Edgeworth, Kay had literally fallen in love with the job as much as being the Yatagarasu. And then her face cocked to the side in a confused manner. “What do you mean? I’m still with him, you know.”

chicksdigthebutz:

“Kay, it’d be great if you stopped looking at my baby pictures, thanks.” Larry couldn’t help, but roll his eyes as he saw Kay excitedly rolling through the pages of his family’s photo album. Ugh, why did he mom think that was necessary, again?

“Oh, relax hun. I’m sure your girlfriend just wants to get to know you better~!” Larry mom replied in a rather sing-song voice. God, Larry really didn’t enjoy pretty much getting teased the whole car ride.

“Are we there, yet?”, he would say in a bored tone. He knew he should have brought Nick along. Larry needed another guy to be there, instead of listening to damn girl talk, which was annoying as fuck to be honest.

“Just a few more minutes, Lar-bun~” Larry’s mom couldn’t help, but giggle at her son’s expense. She knew this would be a fun little trip. Besides, she could at least have a few more moments before her son would soon move out, and possibly get married some day. It was thoughts like these that, made feel a bit uneasy.

(…Did my mom honestly just call me that pet name…? I’m fucking  fifteen, not five. Not cool mom, not cool.)

Larry was just so glad that his mom was only dropping him off. If she would have actually stayed with them, he might have gone insane.

“Aww, but you were the cutest little baby! You don’t need to feel so ashamed, everyone has these~” Kay teased, closing the photo album anyway and handing it to Larry for him to hide.

In a weird way, the young woman felt she could look up to Ms. Butz as a motherly figure since Kay had never known hers. At times when Larry disrespected his mom, Kay always felt the need to tell him to respect her more, but she never did. Although she felt like it sometimes, Kay wasn’t a part of this family and shouldn’t stick her nose in places it doesn’t belong.

“Lar-bun, huh? I’ve always called him Larry-bear~” The thief sent a cheeky grin in the older woman’s direction.

Her father gladly returned the hug and as usual a light pat at the top of her head, his gentle smile slowly turned into a playful grin on his part; it was a small trip but he really did miss his daughter including her alternate counterparts.

I did as well. I’m relieved to hear that, I wouldn’t want my daughter to forget about her old man.

A warm smile lit up her face at the familiar pat to her head. Light chuckling was heard as Kay pulled away. “Do you really think I could forget about you?” Her head shook back and forth and a single laugh sounded. “Even when you were gone for seven years, I never once forgot you!”

Those eyes of his daughter was not something he could go against. Her father knew he had the worse habit of letting her get away with things which made him avert her innocent stare, until her question made him turn back to her while spontaneously answering her back, being completely offended by the doubt.

Of course I do, what kind of question is this?

“I was just wondering,” Kay shrugged before wrapping her arms around his middle. “I missed you, you know.” And she really did. The house had been too quiet since he left and was glad he was back as well as safe. Needless to say, the girl had given up on the guilt trip once the father looked away.

East of Los Angeles was a national park that sat at the end of an hours drive and that is where Kay and Larry were headed. The money they would have spent piling into a Greyhound bus would have been outrageous and they would have lack supplies, but thankfully Ms. Butz offered to drive the couple to their destination instead.

Tent, clothes, and food packed into the back of the car, the three of them headed East. Poor Larry was shoved in the back seat while Kay took shot gun on his mothers orders of teaching her son how to be a gentleman. Who would have thought this thief and this single mother would get along so well? Not the orange idiot, that’s for sure. The whole ride consisted of the two females singing and joking at Larry’s expense. Poor, poor Larry.

I’d appreciate if you toned down those kind of jokes a little…

“Alright…” She trailed off, looking like that of a kicked puppy before gazing up with sad eyes. “You still love me, right?” It was that simple little question that every child knew to ask when a parent was mad.

!!!

[Melissa winces, her hands tightening on the whip. She had saved the girl’s life, true. She could trust her not to run to the press and have her reputation ruined.

But could she stand to have the Kay look at her with such pity in her eyes? She doesn’t want anyone else to know how she had failed to protect herself. Especially Kay, one of many people who thought her an invincible force. How would she react to knowing that she had very nearly been violated or even possibly killed in an allyway because she had forgotten how to defend herself properly in her fear.

Would she judge her?

Would she hate her?]

C-come inside, if you would.

This isn’t a conversation to have on the doorstep.

There are many truths in this world such as Earth is mostly water and kittens are adorable, but the main truth that should be focused on here is the fact that Kay could never pity another person. To her, pity is an emotionless and cowardly way for people to disregard an others feelings. Always one to care, this normally chipper girl is genuinely empathetic and only seeks to help and understand instead of judge and shove advice. In fact, Kay could never find it in herself to criticize or hate anyone. As much as Kay looks up to certain people, she is very aware that no one is perfect and should not be held to that standard. Everyone makes mistakes, but it’s whether you get back up or staying down after falling.

Uneasiness is radiating from the prosecutor and the thief mentally kicks herself for causing more pain. “Right,” She spoke, slowly entering Melissa’s home and finding her way to the living area. Sitting down on the sofa she waits for the other to speak first.

It was a…work related accident. I really am fine.

[On this lie, she reaches up and touches a tender point on her neck. If Kay had a magic bracelet that tells her when people are exhibiting a nervous habit, it would be going haywire right now.

As it stands, Kay doesn’t have something like that. Though to anyone, Melissa might look vaguely nervous.]

I-I’m touched, but you don’t have to worry on my behalf.

Frowning, there is no way to prove whether or not Melissa is lying at the moment so Kay has no other choice than to believe her. Sure it seems fishy when this ‘work-related incident’ happened in an environment that normally isn’t do dangerous. Unless a witness grew angry and attacked the prosecutor or she tripped over something in her office, the young lady didn’t see how it was possible.

“Melissa… You saved my life. I’m always going to try and return the favor. Other than that you are a great friend and more than anything, I hate to see my friends hurt…” Her eyes softened, watching the woman rub at her neck. Now that she thought about it, those marks suspiciously looked like bites. Kay stopped herself mid-thought before she could jump to any conclusions. She didn’t want to pry, but was there another option?

A light sigh escaped Kay’s lips. “…Especially when those bruises look far from anything you could receive at work.”

prodigalprosecutor:

I apologize. I was working and must have missed your call.

[A blatent lie, but one not easily seen through. She can feel Kay staring at the bruise, and she wishes she could reach up to cover it, but to do so would be to prove that she were ashamed of it, which would not be the case if she had gotten it in the course of her job.]

Why on earth you would be so worried as to run halfway across the city is beyond me, but as you can see, I’m perfectly fine.

And that was a lie Kay easily believed. Taking a few more deep breaths aided in stalling for time so she could think. Would telling Melissa the truth be the best course of action now? Honesty is the best policy, but is there an exception to that rule? Would now be a good exception? After all, prying into the woman’s business would be rude, especially when it might bring up unpleasant memories whatever they may be, but she had to try. In the brief moment of silence Kay took more of her features in, glancing over other bruises along the sides of her neck. Whatever had happened surely was painful.

“I um, heard that you had gotten hurt and as I said, I wanted to know if you were okay,” Realizing her choice in words, Kay attempted to fix them in a way that sounded less like butting in. “I mean, I don’t know any details, but I was still scared,” Her voice dropped to a softer level, “…And now I see you don’t look fine.”
